కథా ప్రారంభం:
సరయు నదీ తీరాన, కోసల దేశంలో అయోధ్య అనే మహానగరం ఉంది. దానిని దశరథ మహారాజు పరిపాలిస్తున్నాడు. ఆయనకు కౌసల్య, సుమిత్ర, కైకేయి అనే ముగ్గురు భార్యలు. రాజ్యం సుభిక్షంగా ఉన్నా, తనకు సంతానం లేదన్న చింత దశరథుని వేధించేది.
కులగురువు వశిష్ఠుని సలహా మేరకు, దశరథుడు ఋష్యశృంగ మహర్షి ఆధ్వర్యంలో 'పుత్రకామేష్టి యాగం' నిర్వహించాడు. యజ్ఞఫలంగా అగ్నిదేవుడు ఇచ్చిన పాయసాన్ని ముగ్గురు భార్యలకు పంచాడు.
తత్ఫలితంగా... చైత్ర మాసం, శుక్ల పక్షం, నవమి తిథిన, పునర్వసు నక్షత్రంలో కర్కాటక లగ్నమందు కౌసల్యకు శ్రీరాముడు జన్మించాడు. కైకేయికి భరతుడు, సుమిత్రకు లక్ష్మణ, శత్రుఘ్నులు జన్మించారు.
ఈ నలుగురు అన్నదమ్ములు శుక్లపక్ష చంద్రునిలా పెరుగుతూ, వశిష్ఠుని వద్ద సకల వేదాలు, యుద్ధ విద్యలు అభ్యసించారు. రాముడు తండ్రికి ఇష్టుడిగా, ప్రజలందరికీ ఆప్తుడిగా పెరిగాడు. లక్ష్మణుడు ఎప్పుడూ రాముని వెన్నంటి ఉండేవాడు.
ఇలా ఆనందంగా సాగుతుండగా, ఒకరోజు విశ్వామిత్ర మహర్షి దశరథుని సభకు వచ్చాడు. తన యజ్ఞానికి రాక్షసుల నుండి రక్షణ కల్పించడానికి రాముని పంపమని కోరాడు. అల్లారుముద్దుగా పెంచుకున్న రాముని పంపడానికి దశరథుడు మొదట అంగీకరించకపోయినా, వశిష్ఠుని మాటతో రాముని, అతనితో పాటు లక్ష్మణుని విశ్వామిత్రుని వెంట పంపాడు.

నేటి నుండి లెక్క పెడితే శ్రీ రామ నవమి 37 రోజులు ఉంది ఈ ముప్పై ఏడు రోజులు రాముని గురించి చెప్పుకుంటే బాగుంది అనిపించింది, రాముని గురించి రామాయణం కంటే ఏది గొప్పగా చెప్పదు,ఇది అతి పెద్ద కావ్యం ఎలా సాధ్యం అనిపించింది,రాముని దయ ఉంటే అదే పూర్తి అవుతుంది, అవసరం లేకపోతే రాయనివ్వడు నాదేమి ఉంది అని రాముని ఆజ్ఞగా ప్రారంభం చేశాను,స్వామి సంకల్పం,స్వామి ఎంత వరకు,ఎన్ని రోజులు రాయిస్తే అన్ని రోజులు పోస్ట్ చేసుకుందాం, చదువుకొని తరిద్దాం....

Story Begins:
On the banks of the Sarayu River, in the kingdom of Kosala,
there was a great city called Ayodhya. It was ruled by King Dasharatha. He had
three queens: Kausalya, Sumitra, and Kaikeyi. Although the kingdom was
prosperous, Dasharatha was troubled by the fact that he had no children.
On the advice of the royal guru Vashishta, Dasharatha
performed the “Putrakameshti Yajna” under the guidance of Sage Rishyashringa.
As a result of the ritual, Agni Deva gave divine payasam, which was shared
among the three queens.
Consequently, in the month of Chaitra, on the ninth day
(Navami) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha), under the Punarvasu Nakshatra
and Cancer (Karkataka) ascendant, Lord Rama was born to Kausalya. Bharata was
born to Kaikeyi, and Lakshmana and Shatrughna were born to Sumitra.
These four brothers grew like the waxing moon, learning all
the Vedas and martial arts under Sage Vashishta. Rama grew up to be dear to his
father and beloved by all the people. Lakshmana was always at Rama’s side.
One day, while life continued happily, Sage Vishwamitra came
to King Dasharatha’s court. He requested that Rama be sent with him to protect
his yajna from demons. Although Dasharatha was initially reluctant to send the
dearly raised Rama, on Vashishta’s advice, he sent Rama along with Lakshmana to
accompany Vishwamitra.
