రామావధాన్లు ఏకాకి అవడం వల్ల, పోతూపోతూ మఠానికి రాసేసిన ఆస్తి యావత్తు పరమానందయ్య గారి పరమైంది. ఆ సామానులు బండిమీద వేసుకొని, ఇంటిదారి పట్టిన పరమానందయ్యకు తన శిష్యుల జాగ్రత్త మీద గల అపారమైన నమ్మకం కొద్దీ “నాయనా! బండిలోంచి ఏది క్రింద పడినా తీసి లోపల వేస్తారు కదా!” అని చెప్పి కునుకు తీయసాగారాయన.
దానిక్కారణం ఉంది. అంతకు ముందొకసారి ప్రయాణంలో బండిలోంచి గురువు గారి మరచెంబు క్రింద పడినాకూడా గుర్వాజ్ఞ లేదని దాన్నట్లాగే చక్కా వదిలేసి వచ్చేశారు వాళ్ళు.
ఆ తర్వాత ఇంకొకసారి బండి కుదుపులకి అంతకంటే విలువైన గురుపత్ని కాలి పట్టాల్తు జారిపోయాయి. అవీ అంతే. దాంతో ఆయన ఈ ప్రయాణం పెట్టుకోగానే శిష్యులకు జాగ్రత్తలు చెప్పి నిద్రపోసాగారు.
కొంత సేపటికి ముఖంమీదకి మెత్తని జిగురు లాంటి ముద్దవంటి పదార్ధం కంపుకొడుతూ ఠాప్మని పడేసరికి ఉలిక్కిపడి లేచి చేత్తో తడిమి చూసుకోగా ఇంకేముందీ అసహ్యంగా తగిలిందాయన చేతికి. అది "ఎద్దుపేడ."
“ఇదేంట్రా?” అని విసుక్కున్నారాయన “మీరేకదండీ క్రింద పడిన ప్రతీదీ బండిలో వేయమన్నారు” అని శిష్యుల జవాబు.
వెంటనే బండి అపించి చెరువులో ముఖం కడుక్కుందామని వెళ్ళి, అది కొత్త ప్రదేశం కావడంతో ఊబిలో దిగబడి “నన్ను కాస్త పైకి లాగండర్రా” అంటూ నెత్తీ నోరూ మొత్తుకున్నారు.
“అయ్యా! మీరువస్తువులే పైకి తీయమన్నారు గాని, మిమ్మలను లాగమని ముందు మాకు చెప్పలేదు” అంటూ తర్కానికి దిగబోగా “మీతర్కం తెలివి తగలయ్య! ముందు నన్ను పైకి తీయండర్రా” అని బ్రతిమాలి శిష్యుల సహాయంతో బ్రతికి బైట పడ్డారు పరమానందయ్య. ఆ విధంగా ఆయనకి పెద్ద జలగండ ప్రమాదం తప్పింది.

The Guru Who Narrowly Escaped a Watery Disaster
A Humorous Tale of Paramanandaiah and His Disciples
After Ramavadhanulu passed away without heirs, all his
property — which he had generously written over to the monastery — came into
the care of the respected scholar Paramanandaiah.
One day, Paramanandaiah loaded the belongings onto a bullock
cart and began the journey home with his disciples. He had great faith in his
students — perhaps a little too much faith.
Before dozing off in the cart, he gave them a simple
instruction:
“My boys, if anything falls off the cart, make sure you pick
it up and place it back inside.”
That sounded clear enough.
But there was history behind this warning.
Why the Guru Gave Clear Instructions
On a previous trip, the Guru’s water pot had fallen off the
cart during the journey. The disciples noticed it — but since the Guru had not specifically
told them to retrieve fallen items, they calmly left it where it fell.
Another time, the cart jolted so hard that even the Guru’s
wife’s wooden sandals slipped off onto the road. Once again, the disciples saw
them… and left them behind. After all, no instructions had been given.
So this time, Paramanandaiah made sure to be precise.
Satisfied that he had covered all possibilities, he leaned
back and drifted into a peaceful nap.
When Obedience Goes Too Far
After some time, something soft, sticky, and unpleasant
landed squarely on his face with a loud thud.
Startled awake, the Guru instinctively touched his cheek —
and recoiled in horror.
It was fresh cow dung.
“What is this nonsense?!” he shouted, disgusted.
The disciples responded earnestly:
“Master, you told us to put back anything that falls
off the cart. This fell down… so we put it back.”
The Guru was speechless.

From Dung to Danger
Fuming, he ordered the cart to stop near a pond so he could
wash his face.
But the pond was unfamiliar territory. As he stepped in to
clean himself, the ground beneath him suddenly gave way. He had wandered into a
muddy swampy patch and began sinking.
Panicking, he cried out, “Pull me up! Quickly!”
The disciples, however, hesitated.
“Master,” one of them began seriously, “you told us to lift
only objects that fall. You did not instruct us to pull you out
if you fall.”
Even in the middle of sinking, Paramanandaiah could not
believe what he was hearing.
“Forget your arguments and your logic!” he shouted
desperately. “Pull me out first!”
Finally understanding the urgency, the disciples grabbed
hold of him and managed to drag him to safety.
So it was that Paramanandaiah narrowly escaped what could
have been a serious watery disaster — all because of overly obedient students
who followed instructions a little too literally.
Moral of the Story
Common sense is just as important as obedience.
Rules are meant to guide us — not replace our thinking.
And sometimes, the difference between wisdom and foolishness
is simply knowing when to use your brain.
