మధ్యాహ్నం భోజనాలయి గురువుగారు, గురుపత్ని ఇతర  శిష్యులంతా కునుకు తీస్తున్న తరుణంలో ఓ శిష్యుడు తటాలున లేచి ఇంటికి ఓ మూల నిప్పంటించాడు. “ఏమిట్రా ఈపని?” అని అడిగిన ఇంకో శిష్యుడికి “ఆమాత్రం తెలీదా? ఉక్కబోత చంపేస్తుంది. ఎండాకాలం వేడి. “ఉష్ణం ఉష్టేన శీతలం” అని కదా గురువుగారు చెప్పారు. ఈ వేడికి తగ్గ జవాబు అగ్గినిప్పే అని నిప్పెట్టేశాను” అన్నాడు అంటించిన శిష్యుడు మహా సంబరంగా.

గ్రామం యావత్తూ ఈ అతికెలివి శిష్యుడి పనికి నొచ్చుకుని గురువు గారి మీదున్న గౌరవం వల్ల శిష్యులకు మెత్తగా చివాట్లు వేసి సరిబెట్టి తన్నకుండా వదిలారు. ఆశ్రమంతో పాటు తమ ఇళ్ళూ ఎక్కడ అంటు కుంటాయోనని వాళ్ళంతా ఏకమై మంటలను ఆర్బడంలో సాయపడ్డారు. అప్పటికే ఆశ్రమంలో మూడొంతులు తగులడిపోయింది. కట్టుబట్టలు మిగిలాయి.

దీంతో గురువు గారికి సగం ప్రాణం పోయింది. బెంగతో రోజులెలా గడపాలా అనే దిగులుతో ఇంకా నీరసించి పోయారు. శిష్యులందరూ ఆ స్ఫితిలో గురువుగార్ని చూడలేక బావురుమన్నారు. ఇంతకాలం వారి అమాయకత్వాన్ని భరిస్తూ వచ్చిన పరమానందయ్యకీ వారి పత్నికీ, “ఒకవేళ తామేదైనా అయితే, వీరి పరిస్థితి ఏమిటి?” అనే దిగులూ ఎక్కువైంది. దిగులు తగ్గడానికి కొన్నాళ్ళు పుట్టింటి కెళ్ళోస్తానని వెళ్ళింది గురుపత్ని.

ఓరోజు ఉన్నట్టుండి ఆయన కాళ్ళూ చేతులూ చల్లబడ్డాయి ఇంకేముందీ? ఆయనకు అంత్యకాలం సమీపించిందని నిర్ధారించేసిన శిష్యులు ఆయన్ని శ్మశానానికి మోసుకు పోయారు.

“అంత హఠాత్తుగా ఎలా జరిగిందబ్బా?” అనుకుంటూ “ఈ శిష్యుల తెలివి తెల్లారినట్టే ఉంది” అని పుట్టింట్లో ఉన్న పేరిందేవికి కబురందించి, తీరా శ్మశానానికి వచ్చి చూస్తే, మాట పడిపోయి కళ్ళనీళ్ళు కారుస్తున్న గురువుగారు వారి కంటబడ్డారు. 

'ఇది పక్షవాత లక్షణంలా ఉందే' అని అనుభవజ్ఞుడొకడు అనడంతో, శిష్యులు చేసిన నిర్వాకానికి మండిపడి గ్రామస్తులు వార్ని ఊళ్ళోకి ఆశ్రమానికి రానివ్వక అట్నుంచటే వెళ్ళగొట్టారు. అంతే!.

Paramanandayya’s Journey to the Afterlife

One afternoon, while Paramanandayya, his wife, and the disciples were resting after lunch, one mischievous disciple suddenly ran out and lit a small fire at home.

Another disciple asked:

"Hey! What are you doing?"

The first disciple replied proudly:

"Don’t you understand? The heat is unbearable! Gurudev said, 'Heat cools down in the proper way.' So, I thought lighting a small fire is the perfect response to this heat!"

The villagers, knowing the disciples’ mischief but respecting Paramanandayya, intervened gently, making sure nothing got out of control. The fire spread quickly, though, and part of the ashram and nearby homes started burning. By then, three people in the ashram were already hurt, and only some bundles of property remained.

Paramanandayya was deeply distressed. Half of his energy and life seemed drained by the chaos. Seeing their guru in such pain, the disciples were grief-stricken, realizing the consequences of their playful actions. His wife also felt helpless and worried about the unfolding disaster.

Eventually, Paramanandayya’s physical strength gave way. His limbs went cold, and it was clear to the disciples that his end of life had approached. They carried him carefully to the cremation ground.

At the cremation ground, villagers and disciples alike were stunned. Even those present at his home were shocked at how suddenly his departure happened. Some remarked that it looked like a sign of divine timing or cosmic influence, noting the strange and sudden nature of his passing.

The disciples realized their playful intelligence and impetuousness had indirectly led to this situation. The villagers, too, regretted not preventing the mischief from escalating and reflected on the delicate balance of respect, discipline, and devotion.

 

Key Lessons:

1. Even the most harmless mischief can have serious unintended consequences.
2. Respect and care for the guru or elders are essential, as playful intelligence without wisdom can lead to sorrow.
3. Life is delicate; sudden events remind us of the impermanence of worldly existence.
