ఒకానొక సందర్భంలో పరమానందయ్య గారి పట్ల అపరిమితాభిమానంతో, రాబోయే శ్రీరామ నవమి వేడుకలలో ఐదు రోజులపాటు పురాణ కాలక్షేపం విన్పించాలంటూ దగ్గరి గ్రామస్తులు కొందరు పట్టుపట్టారు.
వారి కోరికను కాదనలేక పరమానందయ్య గారు పత్నీ సహితంగా వేంచేస్తా మన్నారు. “అంతకంటే మహద్భాగ్యమా?” అని గ్రామస్తులు వారందరికీ విడిది ఏర్పాట్లు ఘనంగా చేశారు.
పరమానందయ్య గారికి నిజానికి రామాయణగాధ ఒక్కటే బాగా చెప్పడం వచ్చు! భారత భాగవతాల జోలికెళ్ళక ముందే, తండ్రిగారు కాలం చేసినందున, అవి అంతతమాత్రం స్వంత ప్రజ్ఞతో అలవర్చుకున్నవే గనుక, పురాణం చెప్పమని ఎవరడిగినా “రామాయణం చెప్పుకుందాం” అనేవారు.
సందర్భం కూడా కలసి వచ్చింది గనుక్క ఐదురోజులే అన్నారు గనుక మొదట్లోని బాల, అయోధ్యా కాండలూ, చివర్లోని యుద్ధకాండా వదిలేసి అరణ్య - సుందరకాందలు ఎత్తుకున్నారు.
ఓరోజు పురాణంలో లంకాదహన ఘట్టం వివరించి చెప్తూ “ఆ ప్రకారం.... హనుమ చూచిరమ్మంటే కాల్చివచ్చినాడు అనే వాక్యంతో ఆ నాటికి పురాణం చాలించారు.
ఆ మాట శిష్యుల మనస్సు మీద బాగా ముద్రపడిపోయింది. చివరిరోజు గ్రామస్తులు గురువు గారికి పట్టు పీతాంబరాలు, గురుపత్నికి పట్టుచీరా రవికె పెట్టి దక్షిణతో సహా సత్మరించారు.
తిరుగు ప్రయాణమై వెళ్ళాక ఓరోజు పట్టుబట్టలు అరబెట్టారు గురుపత్ని. “ నాయనా! బట్టలు ఆరాయో లేదో చూడు” అన్నారు. అంతే ! ఆ శిష్యుడికి పురాణంలో ఓరోజు ముక్తాయింపుగా గురువుగారు అన్న వాక్యం గుర్తుండిపోయి, చూద్దానికి వెళ్లినవాడు పట్టుబట్టకు నిప్పంటించి చక్కావచ్చాడు.
క్షణాల్లో అంత విలువైన పట్టుబట్టలూ భస్మం అయిపోవడం చూసి, నోట మాటరాక నిలువు గుడ్లేసుకుని చూస్తూ పేరిందేవి “మళ్ళీ జన్మలో ఇలాంటివి సంపాదించగలమా?” అని కంటతడి పెట్టింది.

The Burning of the Sacred Clothes
Once, some villagers, full of love and respect for Paramanandayya,
asked him to recite stories from the Puranas for five days during the
upcoming Sri Rama Navami festival.
Paramanandayya, along with his wife, happily agreed. The
villagers made grand arrangements for the festival.
Paramanandayya was an expert in the Ramayana. So, for
the five days, he told the stories of the Aranya Kanda and Sundara
Kanda, skipping the Bala, Ayodhya, and Yuddha Kandams.
On one day, he described the famous Lanka Dahan
episode, where Hanuman sets Lanka on fire. The students were so impressed by
his narration that it stayed in their minds forever.
At the end of the festival, the villagers honored
Paramanandayya and his wife with sacred yellow robes and gifts.
Later, one day, a student went to check if the sacred
clothes were dry. Remembering the story of Lanka Dahan, he jokingly set fire to
the clothes.
In a few moments, the beautiful sacred clothes turned to
ashes. Everyone, especially the students, were stunned. They stood silently,
thinking:
"Will we ever get such precious things again in
another life?"
Moral of the Story:
Even precious things can be lost in a moment. Respect and
care are very important.
