ఇంతలో ఒక శిష్యునికి సందేహం వచ్చింది. “అందరం ఏరుదాటి వచ్చామా! లేదా! లేక చురకపెట్టిన ఆగ్రహం కొద్దీ ఏరు ఎవర్నయినా మింగేసిందా?” అని అనుమానం కొద్దీ తమ పదిమందినీ లెక్కబెట్టాడు. లెక్కకు తొమ్మిది మందే వస్తున్నారు. ఎన్నిసార్లు లెక్కబెట్టినా ఇదేవరస. దాంతో “గురువుగారూ! కొంప మునిగిందండీ! మాలో ఒకర్ని ఏరు పొట్టన పెట్టేసుకుంది” అంటూ ఏడుపు లంకించుకున్నాడు.

“ఆరే నిజంగానా?” అంటూ ఆయన ఆశ్చర్యపోయి, “సరిగ్గా లెక్కపెట్టావా నాయనా! ముందాశోకాలు మాని, ఇంకోసారి లెక్కపెట్టు ధైర్యంగా అన్నారు పరమానందయ్య.

“నిజమేనండీ గురువుగారూ! మేం మీ శిష్యులం పదిమందిమి ఉండాలికదా! మీతో కలిపి 11మందిమి... 'ఏకాదశరుద్రుల్లా భాసిస్తున్నాం” అని మీరు అంటుంటారు. ఇప్పుడు లెక్కబెడితే దశావతారాలే-మీతో కలిపి” అన్నాడు ఆ శిష్యుడు.

ఆ శిష్యుడు ఎంతో చురకైన వాడని పరమానందయ్యగారి నమ్మకం. అటువంటి వాడి మాటల్లో శంకించడానికేముంటుంది?

Difference in Students Numbers – A Humorous Tale

One day, a disciple of Paramanandayya began counting the students in the ashram. Something didn’t feel right:

"Have we all come here? Or did someone get eaten by the angered crocodile?"

He counted repeatedly, but no matter how many times, only nine disciples appeared instead of the expected ten. Alarmed, he ran to Paramanandayya crying:

"Guru, something’s wrong! Someone is missing!"

Paramanandayya, surprised, calmly asked him to count again, without panicking.

"It’s true, Guru! There should be ten disciples, but including you, we are like eleven shining Rudras!" the disciple insisted.

Because this disciple was clever and trustworthy, Paramanandayya initially believed him. He lined up all the disciples, leaving himself out, and counted carefully. Still, only ten appeared.

Finally, the discrepancy was revealed:

• The disciples had been forgetting to count themselves first before counting others.
• Because of this oversight, anyone counting would always find one disciple “missing”.

To settle the matter, the disciples went home feeling confused. Then, Gurupatni (Paramanandayya’s wife) used her wisdom: she lined everyone up, touched each one individually, and counted all eleven, including Paramanandayya himself. Only then did the count match perfectly, and everyone calmed down.
