కథా వివరణ:

1. చిత్రకూటం వైపు మహా ప్రయాణం:

దశరథుని అంత్యక్రియలు ముగిసిన తర్వాత, మంత్రులు భరతుడిని సింహాసనం అధిష్టించమని కోరారు. కానీ భరతుడు ససేమిరా అన్నాడు.మరునాటి ఉదయమే వందిమాగధులు వచ్చి భరతుడు రాజవుతాడనీ రాజోచితంగా అతణ్ణి స్తోత్రం చేయసాగారు. వారి స్తుతులు తన దుఃఖాన్ని అధికంచేయగా "నేను అయోధ్యా పాలకుణ్ణి కాదు" అంటూ వారిని స్తోత్రాలు ఆపమన్నాడు.

ఆ తదుపరి వశిష్టుడు పుర ప్రముఖులను, సైన్యాధిపతులను పిలిపించి, భరతుడు రాగానే అతడిని రాజోచితంగా స్వాగతం పలికాడు, పాలకుడు లేని రాజ్యం అస్తవ్యస్తం అవుతుంది. కైకేయి కుట్రలో నీకు భాగం లేదు.నీవు అమాయకుడివి అని రాజ్యం మొత్తం నమ్ముతుంది. దశరథ మహారాజు గారు నిన్ను వారసునిగా ఎంపిక చేశారు,అన్ని ఏర్పాట్లు పూర్తయ్యాయి సింహాసనం మీకోసం ఎదురు చూస్తుంది,అంగీకరిస్తే ఈరోజే మిమ్ము రాజుగా పట్టాభిష్టిక్తునీ చేస్తాము అని అన్నాడు.దానికి భరతుడు ఎంతో బాధ పడ్డాడు. 

జ్యేష్ట సుతుడు రాజుగా ఉండాలా అనేదే మా వంశ ఆచారం. దాన్ని కాలదన్ని సింహాసనం పొంగలి అని నేను ఎప్పుడూ భావించలేదు."రాజ్యం రాముడిది. నేను కేవలం అన్నయ్యను తిరిగి తీసుకురావడానికి  అరణ్యాలకు వెళ్తున్నాను" అని ప్రకటించాడు.నేను ఒక్కడినే కాదు అయోధ్య ప్రజలు, చతురంగ బలాలూ, ముగ్గురు తల్లులూ, వశిష్ఠాది మునులు అందరినీ వెంటబెట్టుకుని రాముడు ఉన్న చోటికి వెళ్ళి అందరం కలసి రాముని తీసుకొచ్చి రాజుగా పట్టాభిష్టిక్తునీ చేద్దాం అని ప్రకటించి. అందరూ వెళ్ళటం కోసం దారులు సిద్ధం చేయమని ఆదేశాలు ఇచ్చాడు.దాదాపు మూడు నెలల పాటు శ్రమించి దారి సిద్ధం చేశారు(మొత్తం సైన్యం,రధములు, ఏనుగులు,గుర్రాలు వెళ్ళే దారులు అడవిలో ఉండవు,అన్ని సిద్ధం చేయడానికి అంత సమయం పట్టింది)

2. గుహుని సందేహం - భరతుని భక్తి:

నిర్మాణం పూర్తయిన తర్వాత..మరునాటి ఉదయం భరతుడు తన రథాన్ని తీసుకురమ్మని సుమంత్రుణ్ణి ఆదేశించిన పిమ్మట తన పెద్ద సైన్యంతో బయలుదేరాడు. భరతుని నేతృత్వంలోని ఆ మొత్తం బృందంలో రామునికే సంపూర్ణంగా అంకితులైన రధికులు నడుపుతున్న అరవైవేల రథాలు, లక్షమంది అశ్వికులు, పద్మాలచేత అలంకృతమైన తొమ్మిదివేల గజాలు వున్నాయి. రాముణ్ణి అడవుల నుంచి తీసుకువచ్చే ఆశతో ప్రత్యేకమైన రథాలను అధిరోహించి కౌసల్య, సుమిత్ర, కైకేయి కూడా వచ్చారు. రాముణ్ణి చూచే అవకాశం వస్తున్నదన్న ఆనందంతో అనేకమంది ఇతర పురజనులు కూడా భరతుని వెంట బయలుదేరారు.అలా ప్రయాణించి.. 

మార్గమధ్యంలో గంగాతీరంకు వచ్చారు..అక్కడ ఆ రాత్రికి విశ్రాంతి తీసుకుని మరునాడు వెళ్ళాలి అనుకున్నారు...అప్పుడు గుహుడు (నిషాద రాజు) భరతుడి సైన్యాన్ని చూసి, "భరతుడు రాముడిని చంపడానికి వస్తున్నాడా?" అని అనుమానించాడు. కానీ భరతుడి ధర్మ నిరతికి పొంగి పోయాడు,అప్పుడు రాముడు పడుకున్న గడ్డి పాన్పును చూసి కన్నీరు మున్నీరుగా విలపించడం చూసి గుహుడు ఆశ్చర్యపోయాడు. భరతుని గొప్పతనాన్ని అర్థం చేసుకుని, గంగను దాటడానికి సాయం చేశాడు.

3. భరద్వాజ మహర్షి పరీక్ష:

ప్రయాగ చేరుకున్న భరతుడిని భరద్వాజ మహర్షి పరీక్షించారు. "భరతా! రాజ్యకాంక్షతో రాముడికి హాని తలపెట్టడం లేదు కదా?" అని అడిగారు. భరతుడు కన్నీళ్లతో తన నిష్కల్మషమైన భక్తిని చాటుకున్నాడు. దానికి ప్రసన్నుడైన మహర్షి ఈరోజు ఇక్కడ ఉండి రేపు వెళ్ళండి అని తన తపశ్శక్తితో ఆ రాత్రి భరతుని సైన్యానికి, పరివారానికి దేవలోకపు ఆతిథ్యాన్ని ప్రసాదించారు. అందరికీ దివ్యమైన భోజనం, సుఖశాంతులు లభించాయి.

4. భరతుని వైరాగ్యం:

అక్కడ ఉన్న అందరూ ఆ విందు వినోదాలలో మునిగిపోయినా, భరతుడు మాత్రం అన్నయ్య పడుతున్న కష్టాలను తలచుకుంటూ కేవలం పండ్లు మాత్రమే తిని నేలపై పడుకున్నాడు. భరతుని ఈ వైరాగ్యాన్ని చూసి భరద్వాజ మహర్షి ముచ్చటపడి, రాముడు ఉన్న చిత్రకూట మార్గాన్ని వివరంగా చెప్పారు.

5. అన్నయ్య వైపు అడుగులు:

మరుసటి రోజు ఉదయం భరతుడు చిత్రకూట పర్వత ప్రాంతానికి చేరుకున్నాడు. అక్కడ దూరంగా కనిపిస్తున్న పర్ణశాల పొగను చూసి, "అదిగో నా అన్నయ్య నివాసం!" అని పరవశంతో పరుగు తీశాడు.

Story Summary:

After completing the last rites of King Dasharatha, the ministers urged Bharata to ascend the throne. However, Bharata firmly refused. The next morning, royal bards praised him as the future king, but their words only deepened his sorrow. He declared that he was not the ruler of Ayodhya.

Sage Vashishta and the ministers explained that the kingdom needed a ruler and that Bharata had been chosen as the successor. Yet Bharata upheld the family tradition that the eldest son should rule. He proclaimed that the kingdom rightfully belonged to Rama and announced his decision to bring Rama back from the forest.

Determined, Bharata organized a grand journey to the forest, accompanied by the citizens of Ayodhya, the royal mothers, sages, and a vast army. Roads were constructed over three months to facilitate the movement of the massive entourage.

On the way, they reached the banks of the Ganga, where Guha, the Nishada king, grew suspicious seeing the large army, fearing Bharata might intend harm to Rama. However, upon witnessing Bharata’s deep devotion and grief—especially when he wept seeing the grass bed where Rama had slept—Guha realized his sincerity and helped them cross the river.

Later, at Prayag, Sage Bharadwaja tested Bharata by questioning his intentions. Bharata, with tears, expressed his pure devotion to Rama. Pleased, the sage offered divine hospitality to the entire group through his spiritual powers.

While others enjoyed the comforts, Bharata remained detached, eating only fruits and sleeping on the ground, reflecting on Rama’s hardships. Impressed by his renunciation, Bharadwaja guided him towards Chitrakoot.

Finally, Bharata reached the Chitrakoot hills. Seeing smoke rising from Rama’s hermitage, he joyfully exclaimed and rushed forward, overwhelmed with emotion.

This episode beautifully illustrates Bharata’s unwavering devotion, humility, and commitment to righteousness, making him one of the most admirable characters in the Ramayana.
