అనగనగా పెద్ద కొండ ఒకటి ఉండేది. ఆ కొండ మీద అనేక రకాల వృక్షజాతులు జీవనం సాగిస్తూ ఉండేవి. ఆ కొండ మొదట్లో చాలా పురాతనమైన చెట్టు ఒకటి ఉండేది.
అన్ని చెట్లకంటే అది బలంగాను, చాలా ఎత్తుగాను ఉండేది. దాని ఆకులు కూడా చాలా పెద్దవిగా, చాలా సుందరంగా ఉండేవి. అంతే కాక దాని పూలు, పళ్ళు కూడా చాలా అందంగాను, మధురంగాను ఉండేవి.
ఆ వృక్షరాజపు కొనకొమ్మకు చివరన- అన్నింటికంటే పెద్దఆకు ఒకటి ఉండేది. చల్లటి గాలులు మెల్లగా జోల పాటలు పాడుతుంటే అది హాయిహాయిగా కొమ్మ ఉయ్యాలలూగేది. 'ఇంతకు మించి ప్రపంచంలో మరే ఆనందమూ లేదు.
ఇదే స్వర్గం' అనుకుంటుండేది. 'ఎప్పటికైనా తను నేల రాలాల్సిందే'అన్న నిజాన్ని మరిచిపోయి, ఆ తాత్కాలిక సుఖంలో ఓలలాడేది.అదే కొండ శిఖరంమీద మట్టిగడ్డ ఒకటి ఉండేది.

ఒక రోజున గాలులు ఉధృతంగా వీచాయి. గాలి తాకిడికి మట్టిపెళ్ల విరిగింది. అంత ఎత్తు నుండి పర్వత పాదం వరకూ పడ్డది.

కానీ ఏం చెప్పాలి, వాటి సంతోషం మూడు గంటల ముచ్చటే అయ్యింది. కొద్ది సేపటికే ప్రకృతి విలయ తాండవం మొదలెట్టింది. భయంకరమైన గాలివాన ప్రారంభమైంది. ఆ హడావిడిలో ఎవరు ఎవరిని రక్షించాలో మిత్రులిద్దరికీ అర్థం కాలేదు. ఆకు గాలికి కొట్టుకుపోయి, ఎక్కడో చిక్కుకుని చినిగిపోయింది. మట్టి పెళ్ల వానకు ముద్దై పుడమిలో కలిసిపోయింది.
మన స్థానాలను మనం ఎంత భద్రంగా పెట్టుకోవాలనుకున్నా, చివరికి అందరి స్థానాల్నీ నిర్ణయించేది ప్రకృతే!
