రోజులు యధా ప్రకారం దొర్లిపోతుండగా, ఆ ఏడాది తన తండ్రి సచ్చిదానందుల వారి శ్రద్ధకర్మ (తద్దినం) ఘనంగా చెయ్యాలని పరమానందయ్య గారికి అనిపించింది. పేరిందేవి కూడా మామగారి అనురాగ వాత్సల్యాలు గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకొని “తప్పకుండా వారి ఆత్మ శాంతించేలా ఘనంగా చేసి తీరాలి” అని తీర్మానించింది.
ఆరోజు నవకాయ పిండివంటలూ వండించి, విష్ణుస్థానంలో అదనంగా మరొక బ్రాహ్మణుని కూడా అర్చించి, భోక్తలకు దక్షిణ తాంబూలాలిచ్చి పంపేశాక, శిష్యులతో సహా గురువుగారు భోజనాలకు కూర్చున్నారు.
వంటలు ప్రశస్తంగా కుదిరి అందరూ వారి అభిరుచుల మేరకు భోజనం ఆస్వాదిస్తుండగా “గురువుగారూ! మీరేదైనా ఒక జ్ఞానబోధ... వజ్రపు తునకలాంటిది ఈ సందర్భంగా మాకు చెప్పాలి. దాన్ని జీవితాంతం మర్చిపోకుండా అనుసరిస్తాం” అన్నారు.
అంత అకస్మాత్గా అడిగే సరికి వారికున్న మిడిమిడి జ్ఞానంవల్ల ఏం చెప్పాలో తోచక తడబడి పోయారు. అయినా శిష్యులకి ఏదో ఒకటీ చెప్పాలి. లేకుంటే వాళ్లూరు కొనేలాగ లేరని “నాయనలారా పెద్దలు ఏపని చెప్పినా వెంటనే చేయాలి. అలా చెప్పారు కదా అని పనిమీద పని పెట్టుకోరాదు. అందువల్ల కష్టాలు రావచ్చు!” అన్నారు వివరంగా. అది వాళ్ళ బుర్రల్లో బలంగానే నాటుకుపోయింది.
కొన్నాళ్ళ తర్వాత, గురుపత్నికి తండ్రిగారి ఆరోగ్యం బాగులేదని కబురు రాగా, ఆమె ఆందోళన పడి ఆశ్రమంలోని పనుల ఒత్తిడివల్ల తాను వెళ్ళలేక ఓ శిష్యుడిని పిలిచి తన తండ్రిగారిని చూసి రమ్మంది.
ఆ శిష్యుడు ఇలా వెళ్ళి, అలా సాయంత్రానికి తిరిగి వచ్చేశాడు. చెప్పిన పని తక్షణం చేసిన ఆ శిష్యుని తీరు గురువమ్మ గారికి అనందం కలిగించినా, తండ్రిగారి సంగతి తెలుసుకోవాలని ఆందోళనగా అడిగింది.
“ఒరే అబ్బీ! మా నాన్నగారు కులాసాయేనా?” అని.
“నేను ఆయన్ని పలకరించనే లేదండీ” వినయంగా అన్నాడా శిష్య పరమాణువు.
“అదేమిటయ్యా! ఊరు దేనికి వెళ్ళినట్టు?” అని చిరాకు పడిందామె.
“అలా అంటారేమిటమ్మా! ఊరికే వెళ్ళి రమ్మన్నారు గాని, పలకరించమని చెప్పలేదు కదా! స్వంత ఆలోచనలతో పనిమీద పని పెట్టుకో కూడదని ఆనాడు గురువుగారు చెప్పలేదా?” అన్నాడు.
“అదొక పెద్దపనా? ఎటూ వెళ్ళినవాడివి..... ఆమాట కనుక్కోక పోతే నువ్వెళ్ళి ప్రయోజనం ఏమిటి?”
“ఏమో! అదంతా నాకు తెలీదు”.
“మీ తెలివి తెల్లారినట్టే ఉంది. మక్కీకి మక్కీ ఏపని చెప్తే అదే చేస్తానంటే ఎలాగర్రా?” అని విసుక్కుంది గురుపత్ని.
“సర్లే నువ్వు మళ్ళీవెళ్ళి ఈసారి మా నాన్నగారిని కలుసుకుని మంచి చెడ్డలు అడిగి రా!”
“అయ్యో దేవుడా! మీరు మళ్ళీ రెండు పనులు చెప్తున్నారు మధ్యలో ఇంకోపని చెప్తున్నారు.

“ఊరు వెళ్ళడం ఒకపని కదా! మధ్యలో ఇంకో పని ఎందుకు? ఆయన్ని కలవాలి, మంచి చెడ్డలు అడగాలి”.
“దేనికదే లెక్కబెట్టుకుంటారా? ఇదంతా ఒకటే పని”
“లేదండి! రెండూ వేర్వేరు పనులు. అంతే! గురువుగారు చెప్పింది జీవితాంతం పాటించాల్సిందే!”
“ఆ మాత్రానికి ఊరికెళ్ళడం దేనికి?”
“అయితే అది మానేసి, మీ తండ్రిగారి మంచిచెడ్డలు ఒక్కటే అడగనా?”
“నీకు చెప్పడం నావల్ల కాదురా! అక్కడికి వెళ్ళనిదే ఆయన మంచి చెడ్డలు ఎలా తెలుస్తాయి?”
“చూశారా! రెండూ వేర్వేరు పనులు అని మీరే అంటున్నారు. గురుపత్నికిక వాదించే ఓపిక లేక నెత్తీనోరు మొత్తుకుంది.

The Clever Answer of the Disciple
One year, Paramanandayya decided to perform his father Sacchidananda’s annual ritual with great devotion. His wife also wanted to make sure everything went perfectly to honor her father.
On that day, they prepared special dishes from young vegetables and fruits, invited a Brahmin priest for extra rituals, and offered gifts to all the attendees. After all the arrangements, Paramanandayya and his disciples sat down to eat.
While enjoying the meal, the disciples said:
"Gurudev! Today, you must share some wisdom, like a diamond, that we will remember and follow our whole lives."
Paramanandayya was momentarily flustered, unsure what to say, but he knew he had to give them some guidance. He explained:
"Whatever elders ask, do it immediately. Do not delay or think of your own convenience. Otherwise, difficulties may arise."
This lesson stayed strongly in the disciples’ minds.
Later, news arrived that Paramanandayya’s father was unwell. His wife wanted to visit him but could not because of her responsibilities at the ashram. So, she sent one of the disciples to check on her father.
The disciple returned in the evening and reported that he had done what was asked. The guru’s wife asked anxiously:
"Did you greet my father properly?"
The disciple humbly replied:
"No, I did not greet him. You asked me to go, but not to speak to him. I only did what you told me, as the guru always advises us not to act on our own ideas."
The wife was frustrated:
"How will you know what is good or bad for him if you don’t even greet him?"
The disciple answered calmly:
"You said the task was just to go and see him. That is what I did. Doing anything else was not part of the instructions."
She sighed:
"You see! This is exactly what I mean by a clever answer—just like a chick following its mother’s instructions exactly. But next time, make sure you ask about both the visit and his well-being!"
The disciple realized that following instructions carefully is important, but sometimes one must also understand the spirit behind them.
Moral of the Story:
Follow instructions carefully, but think and act wisely to fulfill the true purpose.
